이번에도 위키에서 기본 개념 공부를 한다. 대딩 때 습관 못버리고 한번 정리한거 다시 잘 안보는데... 그래도 계속 나오는 단어같은 건 계속 찾아볼테니 하나라도 머리에 남겠거니... 하는 생각이다.

Geotechnical engineering, also known as geotechnics, is the branch of civil engineering concerned with the engineering behavior of earth materials. It uses the principles of soil mechanics and rock mechanics for the solution of its respective engineering problems. It also relies on knowledge of geology, hydrology, geophysics, and other related sciences. Geotechnical (rock) engineering is a subdiscipline of geological engineering. In addition to civil engineering, geotechnical engineering also has applications in military, mining, petroleum, coastal engineering, and offshore construction. The fields of geotechnical engineering and engineering geology have knowledge areas that overlap, however, while geotechnical engineering is a specialty of civil engineering, engineering geology is a specialty of geology: They share the same principles of soil mechanics and rock mechanics, but differ in the application.

Geotechnics라고도 하는 지반공학(Geotechnical engineering)은 토목 재료의 공학적 거동과 관련된 토목공학의 한 분야이다. 지반공학은 각각의 공학적 문제들의 해결법으로 토질역학 및 암석역학의 원리를 사용한다. 지반공학은 또한 지질학, 수리학, 지구물리학과 관련된 다른 과학들의 지식에 의존한다. 지반(암석)공학은 지질공학의 하위분야이다.

게다가 토목공학, 지반공학은 군사학, 광학, 석유화학, 해안공학, 해양구조물에도 적용된다. 지반공학과 토목지질학의 분야는 지적 영역에서 겹치는 부분이 있다, 그러나, 지반공학은 토목지질학에 특화된 반변, 토목지질학은 지질학에 특화되어 있다: 토질역학과 암석역학의 공통된 원리를 공유하지만 적용되는 부분에서 다르다.

coastal engineering이라던지 offshore construction 같이 뜻이 이해는 되는데 글로 적어지지 않는 단어도 있었고, earth materials같이 살면서 잘 안쓰는 단어도 있었으며, branch같이 토익할 때 한번쯤 접한 단어도 있었지만 며칠 전 해석한 Geophysics보다 구문 자체가 짧다보니 모르는 단어도 적게나오고 해석에도 시간이 더 짧게 걸렸다. 이제 이 둘의 구문을 조금씩 조금씩 더 파고들어야겠다.
